Chimneys...

Where LiteSpeed Prefabricated Chimneys are to be used, the designer should first ascertain the weight of the finished unit and the position of the fixing holes in the chimney bearing plates. If the load of the chimney assembly is to be carried on the roof structure, the spacing and the load carrying capacity of the trusses or rafters should be checked and increased if necessary to ensure that the chimney bearing plates can be easily fixed to timbers of suitable strength and section.

Where chimneys are to be carried on other parts of the structure, the same checks should be carried out with particular reference to ensuring that access can be obtained to carry out the fixing process.

If the chimneys are to be used to carry flues, their location must allow for the minimum angle of diversion of the five pipes and consideration must be given to access beneath the installed chimney for installation of flue support brackets where necessary.
