Many construction professionals find themselves using the innovative range
of LiteSpeed products for the first time. If required full site assistance
is available to ensure their successful installation.
Chimney Preparation & Installation
Chimneys will arrive on site unpointed (unless specified otherwise) with
fixing brackets and lifting eyes. Care should be taken when unloading and
storing units to avoid damage to GRP caps and pots and under no
circumstances should the units be moved using the caps or pots. M12 lifting
loops should be inserted into the lifting eyes on the side of the stack. When lifting
the chimney straps are preferable to chains, along with a spreader bar above
the stack to avoid damaging the GRP cap (straps and spreader bars can be
supplied upon request at an additional cost). The unit can then be lifted ensuring that the bottom edge of the chimney is protected during the process
of turning the chimney upright. The unit can either be pointed on the ground
or insitu at roof level, allowing for the lead to be dressed into the
joints.
Where the chimney is to be fitted onto the roof structure, it should be
lifted onto the prepared rafters, lowered gently into place over an area
that has been prepared with 3-4 layers of felt and fixed using M12 coach
screws fitted through the 14mm diameter holes in the fixing brackets.
Please ensure that a relevant technical expert checks the fixings before
covering fixing bolts. A similar process can be undertaken where chimneys
are to be supported by other parts of the building structure.
The lifting eyes can then be removed and the holes pointed with mortar. If the
chimney is to be used as a flue, the flue pipe can be installed.
Roof tiling and flashing can now proceed in a traditional manor in
accordance with the Lead Sheet Association recommendations.
